Frequently Asked Questions

Aligning Expectations & Establishing Boundaries

You’ve got questions about the process, the timeline, and whether I’m actually as tough as I say I am. (Spoiler: I am, but it’s out of love.)
Here’s the buzz on how we’ll work together.

The Partnership

Q: What exactly is a "Writing Ally"?
A: I’m more than just a red pen; I’m a partner in your craft. My focus is on copyediting and proofreading—cleaning up the mechanics while preserving your unique rhythm. I give you the "why" behind the edits so you don’t just get a cleaner manuscript; you get the momentum to become a sharper writer with every page we touch.

Q: Will you be critical of my work?
A: I’m the friend who will celebrate your progress with a glass of champagne, but I’m also the ally who cares enough to be honest when a sentence isn't pulling its weight. I’m not here to give you a gold star for effort—I’m here to make sure your book is undeniable. If you’re looking for sugarcoated praise, I’m probably not your bee.

Q: What if I’m scared to show you my "ugly" first draft?
A: Send it anyway. Every butterfly starts as a messy, unrecognizable chrysalis. I love seeing the work in its rawest form because that’s where the most potential hides. We’ll work together to navigate that metamorphosis until your story is ready to take flight

The Process & Technology

Q: Do you use AI in your process?
A: I believe in leveraging the best of both worlds. I use AI tools to assist with research, paragraph formatting, and technical efficiency, but the "soul" of the edit is 100% human. I personally read every word and craft every note to ensure your voice is preserved. The final product always has the critical human touch that ensures authenticity and strategic alignment.

Q: Do you guarantee my manuscript will be 100% error-free?
A: In the world of publishing, even the most seasoned teams rarely achieve absolute perfection. Language is fluid, and anyone promising total flawlessness is setting an unrealistic expectation. What I do guarantee is that your content will be professionally polished and ready for publication. I stand behind the quality of my work through:

  • Exceptional Clarity: Streamlining your message so it’s easy for your audience to consume.

  • High Accuracy: Rigorous checks to minimize grammatical errors, typos, and inconsistencies.

  • Voice Integrity: Enhancing your text while preserving your unique voice and meaning.

Note: I cannot guarantee specific outcomes like sales or SEO rankings, as those depend on factors beyond the text itself.

Q: What is the workflow, and who owns the rights?
A: Feedback is given in the form of Track Changes in Word or Review/Comments in Google Docs. You maintain 100% of the rights to your work. I only ask for permission to use generalized or redacted snippets in my portfolio to show off the "before and after" of our progress.

Timing & Investment

Q: What is your typical turnaround time?
A: Timing depends heavily on the project's scope. A simple resumé can be completed in 1–3 business days, a typical blog post in 3–5 business days, and a full website project or novel in 3–5 weeks. Once we've reviewed your project brief, I will provide a specific delivery date within your proposal.

Q: How does pricing work?
A: I typically charge fixed project rates calculated on scope and complexity (small documents, websites, etc.) or word count (books). Fixed rates include consultation, correction with feedback, and one (1) round of revision after the initial draft. I prioritize fixed pricing to give you budget certainty. For ongoing work (monthly blogs, newsletters), I provide monthly retainer packages.

Q: Do you offer any discounts or payment plans?
A: Yes. I offer discounted rates for first-time authors, retainer clients, and project bundles. I also offer loyalty incentives for long-term partners. To get moving, I require a 50% deposit upfront, with the remaining 50% due upon completion. Payment plans are available upon request.

Q: Can we "test drive" the partnership first?
A: Absolutely. It’s important for both of us to assess the partnership before committing to a large project. I typically provide a free sample edit of up to 1,000 words so you can see my style in action. (Note: Smaller projects are not eligible for a free sample.)
